Churchplanters.com Conference – Day 1
I had the pleasure of attending the churchplanters.com conference today with Seth and Shannon. Honestly, it was just fun to get to get out of the office and do something different with those guys. (Shannon kept trying to drink my bottle of water though which was very annoying.
)
The first session was taught by Shawn Lovejoy. Shawn is doing a great job as pastor of Mountain Lake Church and when he speaks you know he’s speaking from experience. I wish I had heard some of the things Shawn was talking about this morning BEFORE I planted my first church! I really appreciate Shawn, his church and everything he’s doing with churchplanters.com.
My good friend, Gary Lamb, taught a breakout session. I was great to see Gary do his thing. He really just laid it out there for the folks in his session. It may sound a little corny but I’m just proud of Gary and his team. Today, it struck me that Gary has grown in so many ways since he launched Ridge Stone. It’s been awesome for me to watch the progression and I’m genuinely excited about what God is going to do next at “the Stone.”
The next session was taught be Ed Stetzer. I’ve heard of Ed and I’ve read some of this stuff before but I’ve never actually heard him speak until today. Ed certainly knows how to communicate that’s for sure. He mentioned during his talk that the church that he planted was named “Mill Creek Community Church” so I guess we’re sort of related or something.
It was really cool to see so many people at the conference. It’s sort of becoming THE place for churchplanters in the area to congregate each year. I saw so many guys that I know. The truth is that I didn’t even get to interact with half of the people I saw that I knew. I’m hoping to connect with a few more folks tomorrow.
Afterwards, I got to hang out and have dinner with my good buddy Roger Blackmore. Roger pastors a church up north somewhere. I’m not sure where exactly. It’s one of the those places with snow and such.
Anyway, it was so good to catch him and just talk shop talk. Roger is a great guy and spending time with him is always great.
We’re supposed to be having lunch with Tadd Grandstaff and his team tomorrow. That should be a blast! I’m also looking forward to hearing Perry Noble speak. I’m sure he’s going to convict, equip and challenge us all.
