Thoughts about life, church planting, and other things.
So, I need a hobby. I need something that’s totally unrelated to church work that can take my mind off of things. I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I have a short list of ideas.
As I look over this list, I can’t get over how lame it is. I seriously doubt any of these are going to make the cut. I need some other suggestions. Any thoughts?

no other suggestions at the moment, but as for thoughts:
a) you could check out the Xbox 360 group tonight (or in 2 weeks if that’s not enough notice) and see if video games are something you’d enjoy
b) I’m pretty sure Perry Noble at NewSpring Church has already laid claim to the “packin’ pastor” mantle. See #4 of his Top Seven STUPID Financial Mistakes That I’ve Made.

…although he seems to be advocating it as a pastoral obligation.

Tony,
Have you considered mountain climbing or ultimate fighting?

All I can say is when looking for a hobby expect the unexpected. I know that about 3 months ago I was at same place you are with this…my wife off the cuff suggested we go to driving range and hit golf balls. Now a couple times a week we do it as a family and I have found my hobby. :-)

Well, I am a gamer and a gunner (?). I have a .45 1911 and a .357 magnum revolver. My neighbor has an ARSENAL, so if you ever want to drive to Cumming to the range - we can let you shoot just about anything you want… from an AK47 to about any type of handgun.
If you get a 360 (or Ps3), try Call of Duty 4. :)
Cheap hobbies are difficult to find!!

How about wood turning? I picked this up last year. You put a small chunk of wood on the lathe and make it even smaller. Plus with the ear protection on, you can stick in your ipod and forget about everything…it is fun.

I think you might be a closet yoddler? (Did I spell that right?)…I mean, you really have a range with your voice (If you’ve listened to Tony’s One Day at a time CD, you’d have to agree!)
MAybe clogging? or Dog whispering?

Square Dancing. Its you.
I have a similarly lame list.
Aquarium? Salt water is fun - but expensive.
Scuba Diving - again expensive but its a blast. I get to do it every couple of years now
How about Skeet/Trap shooting. That can be fun.
I am considering a handgun ’cause I too want to be cool like Perry and I cant play video games very well - although naked Wii is a whole lot of fun!

I like the sound of Skeet/Trap shooting. My sister went with Eric a few times and loved it. Apparently she was pretty good at it too. According to family lore and legend, Ren’s grandmother was an expert skeet shooter. Maybe it’s something you and Amy could do together.

I say go ahead and do the bee keeping, if only to fulfill your curiosity. Who wants to spend the rest of his days wondering if he was meant to be a bee keeper? If anything, it will be interesting blog fodder.
