Sunday Stuff 11-30-2008

  • We had a very moving day today at Fusion.
  • We celebrated the Lord’s Supper and it was especially powerful because we had been talking about the importance of thankfulness.
  • I’ve enjoyed this little series and I’m sort of glad to see it go.
  • I so appreciate all the fusioneers who served in the cold rain today.  You guys are awesome!
  • I especially want to thank Robby, Angela and Zack for braving the elements while on signage duty.
  • I’m so pumped about next weekend.  It’s going to be AMAZING!  I can’t wait!
  • It was great having Chad back doing his thing this week.
  • It was also great having Angela sing again at church.
  • This is going to be one crazy week for me.
  • Amy and I watched Rosie Live last week.  It was an absolute train wreck.  I couldn’t believe how bad it was.
  • I’m so thankful for my dear wife.  You guys have no idea just how wonderful she is.  I love her with all my heart!
  • My kids like the show Time Warp.  I think it’s pretty cool too.
  • One of my boys is a Georgia Bulldogs fan.  He got his first GA sweatshirt before the game this weekend and he was disappointed that they lost to Tech.   I guess he’s not the only one.
  • I brought my camera with me to church today thinking I was going to take some pictures but it didn’t quite work out.  Maybe next time.
  • My little girl lost a front tooth this week.  She looks even more adorable!  I didn’t think that was possible but it’s true.
  • Sharla Eley, who launched our first children’s program, visited Fusion today.  It was so good to see her.
  • I’ve been having all sorts of technical problems lately.  That doesn’t normally happen too much to me.  What’s up with that?
  • I am so very thankful this evening for all that God has done for me and, more importantly, who He is.
  • Later.

Thankful

Throughout the New Testament, that Apostle Paul repeatedly thanked the churches to which he wrote.  He thanked them for all sorts of things in his letters.  Likewise, I’d like to take this opportunity on Thanksgiving day to tell all you guys at Fusion that I’m so very thankful for you.

I could go on and on about why I’m thankful for you all but the biggest single thing that comes to mind is the fact that you are willing to share the love of Jesus with other people.  The truth is that it’s not always easy to do that as a church.  It’s easier to just think about ourselves and what would bless us but I’m proud to say that’s not the way we do it at Fusion.  Tellingly, you guys have always done whatever it takes to make sure we reach out to others.  You all have worked so hard and I truly appreciate it.

I’m also very thankful for all the sacrifices you guys have made.  I see these sacrifices, both large and small, being made time and time again.  You have always stepped up when we’ve needed it.  And, because you’ve done that, we’ve been able to see lives changed by the power of God.  Again, I truly appreciate everything everyone has sacrificed to make Fusion the place that it is.

I’m so grateful to be your pastor.  I pray each of you has a happy and blessed Thanksgiving!

So, How Did It Go?

I’d like to ask those of you that fasted this week how it went.  What was your fasting experience like?

I’m Not a Smart Man…

I don’t know why but I’ve been thinking about Forrest Gump lately.  I found this video on youtube and I like the editing and the musical selections so I thought I’d share it.

Shameless Self-Promotion

I was looking around the iTunes store the other day and realized that our podcast has no reviews.  That bugs me for some reason so if you listen to our podcast I’d like to ask you to go here and write a review.

I guess I should be more specific and ask you to write something nice but I’ll leave that between you and God.  ;)

Thanks!

Church Photos

I was looking through my photos and came across a bunch of shots that I’ve taken while visiting other churches.  I thought some of my pastor friends might like the see them.  I have a couple from Elevation, a handful from Fellowship and a bunch from Saddleback.  Enjoy.

Star Trek Trailer #2

Paramount released an update to their Star Trek trailer today.  This one is basically the same as the first one except for a surprise at the end.  Check it out in the resolution of your choice…

480p  ::  720p  ::  1080p

DANG!!!  They are promoting this just right.  They’ve got me hooked and this film doesn’t even come out until MAY!

I found this picture on the internet.  I’m not sure where it was taken but I found it to be very interesting and a good reminded to pray for our president-elect.  He’s going to have to hit the ground running the hour he’s sworn in and he’s going to need wisdom from God to govern our nation.  That much is for sure.

Weakness

As you fast today, you may start to experience a feeling of weakness.  Don’t let that bother you.  In a way, feeling weak is part of the process.  After all, one of the reasons we are fasting is to practice denying ourselves.  Remember the verse we studied…

Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”  Luke 9:23 (NIV)

The truth is that fasting is acknowledging that God is more important that anything else.  We are focusing on Him because He is the source of everything we need…including strength.  The fact that we are weak actually points to our need for God and His incredible strength.

The apostle Paul understood this concept.  He wrote…

Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My gracious favor is all you need. My power works best in your weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may work through me. Since I know it is all for Christ’s good, I am quite content… For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Cor. 12:8-10 (NLT)  Emphasis mine

Remember that even though you may feel weak, God is strong and His power will work through us as we give our weaknesses to Him.

Fusion Fast

It seems that almost everyone that calls Fusion home is fasting today.  I can’t tell you how pumped I am about that!  I think that the Lord is going to move in BIG ways as we continue to seek Him.

I’m praying for all you guys that the Lord would speak to you clearly today and that you would hear from Him like never before.  I’m also asking Him to bring about major breakthroughs as you focus on Him through fasting.

I’d like to ask you to include Fusion in your prayers as you fast and pray.  Our church is at a critical juncture in her history.  Please ask God to continue to bless and guide us and that Fusion would be everything He envisions it to be.
