Mechanics and Prophets

wrench-11If you’re in the ministry, one of the biggest pitfalls to avoid is becoming a mechanic.   Heaven help us if all we do is build mechanisms, machines, programs and systems.  Of course, nothing’s wrong with good systems.  They are definitely needed.  My concern is that it’s far too easy to focus so much on the mechanics of church that we forget the God of the church.  We simply must have a holy fire inside of us.  We must have a fire, a mission, a message that stirs us to action.  Then and only then should we build systems to support that fire, that life.  We need more prophets and less mechanics in the ministry.  We need more prophets leading the charge.

God help me/us to be as passionate as we are efficient.
