Sunday Stuff 07-19-2009

  • Deep_SmallWe had another awesome day today at Fusion.  We invited folks again to come forward to be baptized and we had another 10 people take the plunge.
  • I really can’t believe it.  I thought we had baptized almost everyone that was eligible last weekend but I guess I was mistaken.
  • I spoke about how true “deep” spirituality is being a Christ follower in everything and obeying His leadership and direction in our lives.
  • I had this awesome sermon ready and felt like the Lord wanted me to change everything about two hours before church.
  • I resisted it at first but I ultimately felt like it was a test of my obedience so I went with it.
  • I’m not sure how it went.  I felt a little jumbled but I think I passed the test.
  • The band did a great job today!  I especially loved the feature song.
  • Ben Forehand, an insanely talented guitarist on our worship team, was one of the folks to come forward to be baptized.  He dad, a pastor, happened to be visiting Fusion this morning so I asked him to come and baptize his son.  That was an amazingly moving moment.  I could hardly hold it together.  It reminded me of when I baptized my oldest.
  • I still can’t get over what has transpired at our church these past two weeks!  It’s absolutely amazing!
  • Today, I also ran into Davis and Angie Hipps in the hallway after church.  They were serving in Kingdom Safari.  I thought they were supposed to be headed out of town for a beach trip but they told me that they leaving for the beach after church because they wanted to serve!  I love those guys and I so appreciate their dedication to our mission.
  • I shared a lot about my spiritual history today and a poked fun at a lot of different segments within the church as well as a lot of activities that people pursue in the church.  I hope that everyone knows that I wasn’t knocking any of them.  I appreciate it all.  I just know that if you don’t watch it you’ll cease being a Christ follower and end up being a something-else follower.
  • Remember, don’t go off the deep end when trying to be “deep.”
  • Real spiritual depth for a Christian is trusting and obeying Jesus Christ.  That’s it.
  • Don’t try to complicate something that is very simple.  (Not simplistic but simple.)
  • I used the word urbane today in my sermon.  I think that’s the first time I’ve ever used that word while preaching.  It made me feel very…well, um…urbane.
  • I also want to be clear that I’m not anti-worship, anti-evangelism, anti-outreach, anti-activism, or anything else.  It’s just that none of these things should become your God.  Follow Christ.
  • I guess I am anti-chicken street drama.  :)
  • This has been the craziest weekend for me.
  • SO, what did YOU think about today?  Post a comment and let me know.
  • We have a video of the baptisms from last week and I was going to post it here but I think I’ll wait until we can add the folks that got baptized this week.
  • Hey peeps, please be praying for me today and for the next couple of days.  I really need a lot of wisdom.  I’m going to be making some tough decisions.
  • That’s it for now.
  • Thank God for His goodness and grace!
  • Later.

I’m looking forward to hearing the podcast. My dad hurt his back and needed us to do a few things for him.

    YAY about the baptisms!

Yesterday was great. ALL of it!

I loved your message. It IS all about obeying. Listening is easy. Learning and studying is easy (relatively). “Philosophizing” is easy. Talk is cheap and easy…..but obeying is something entirely different!

Things start getting real interesting when you start obeying. Life feels like an adventure these days because I feel like my life is not my own. It’s wonderful, exciting and totally mortifying. A true test of my faith. I can’t tell you how many times a day I have to tell myself, “All eyes on Him”…it really helps when I start “thinking too much” or my faith/confidence starts to waiver. I know His plan for my life is far greater than anything I can imagine. I am doing my best to stay out of his way and not mess it up. He has already proven himself so faithful!!

I thought your simple (yet not simplistic) message was right on!
