Paper and Pen

I don’t know why but I ended up writing every message in the Elijah series by hand.  Normally, I work on my messages using Bible software and my favorite mind mapping application.  With this series though, I just couldn’t get anything going that way and I felt compelled to work on the messages like I did when I first started preaching.

At first it felt sort of odd to be working with paper, pen, and a paper-based Bible but then it just started to work and everything started to flow.  The weirdest part of the process for me was taking all my handwritten points and converting them back to a digital form at the last minute for publication and presentation.  It felt oddly counterproductive.

I’ve been writing sermons for over twenty years now and the process every time is still an adventure.  I never really know how it’s going to work.  I’m thankful that the Lord helps me through each time.
