Tommy’s Gone

So much wasted, so much lost,
So many opportunities carelessly tossed.
The most important thing found at last.
God’s grip took hold before his passed.

Sipping water through a straw,
God’s grace and love began the thaw.
Some healing brought before the end,
At last some things begin to mend.

Simple words are said and sought.
Regrets expressed and then forgot.
Frail hands are held, the end is near,
Sweetness between old foes appears.

Last calls from cohorts far away.
News of a prodigal brightens the day.
Goodbyes are said and sung with care.
Dear ones stand tirelessly there.

Words of love are said and then,
God graciously takes Tommy home with Him.

  1. You should share your poetry more often. And you should definitely recite this poem at the funeral/memorial. I know it’s personal and painful but it’s too beautiful not to share…
