Okay, so it looks like even I forgot one of the big features I love about kindles. It’s the ability to store your bookmarks on your computer. Let me explain.
6. Quotes and Notes
The kindle allows you to bookmark pages. You can also highlight sections and make notations as well. These are all things you can do with a regular (wooden) book but the kindle saves all your highlights and notes in a file called the My Clippings file which you can then copy to your computer via a USB cable. The file is a simple text file which you can open and copy and paste. In other words, you can have all your highlighted quotes and notes on your computer to use however you want. Very cool.
Now, I must quickly warn you that Amazon puts a limit on the amount of text you can highlight or “clip” from an given book. I think it must be some sort of percentage because the amount seems to vary. They do this, of course, to keep folks from copying entire books but I’ve never really seen it be a problem except for a couple of books that I devoured. Other than those occassions, I highlight without worry and I love that I have a file with my favorite quotes and notes in one place.
