Jump Starting God

Last Sunday at Fusion, I talked a bit about digging ditches.  The big idea was that when God tells us that He’s going to do something, we should start acting in faith.

Get Ready

If God tells you that He’s going to provide you with a new job, get your resume ready today.  If He tells you that He’s going to move you somewhere, start packing your boxes now.  If He’s telling you that He’s going to bring that special someone into your life, go ahead and get that mole removed.

Do whatever you’ve got to do to move towards the sure promise of God.

While I was talking about all of that, I also said that we should be sure we are not trying to jump start God.

What’s the difference?

We must resist the temptation to try to make God do what we want.  For instance, you shouldn’t start packing everything up just because you want to move.  You shouldn’t start applying for new jobs just because you’re ready for a change either.

That’s sort of thing is going to lead to a lot of pain and disappointment.

Hear Then Act

You must be certain you’ve heard from God first.  You must have a promise from Him.  Then, and only then, act upon what has been promised.

Don’t just start doing what you want to do to fulfill you wishes.  Instead, listen to your loving, all-powerful Lord and, when He directs you, step out in faith.

Follow His Lead and Start Today

Don’t jump start Him.  Let Him jump start you.  And, when He does, start digging ditches.
