I went into this movie with very low expectations. I took my kids and I really didn’t know what to expect. Well, let me tell you that I loved it. I can’t remember the last time I just sat back and enjoyed a movie the way I did with this one.
I was disappointed with Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, and Shrek 3 but this movie saved the summer for me. I laughed and I actually got a little teary-eyed at parts. (I think all the stuff Evan goes through to accomplish his “mission” will resonate with church planters especially.)
I don’t remember any cussing in it and I thought it had a good strong theme. I was worried about it being really new agey or something but it’s not. There is an obvious environmental message but I don’t feel that they beat you over the head with it or anything. I didn’t feel that the movie was off theologically in any major way either. It was just good clean fun. I enjoyed it a lot more than the first one.
Steve Carell is wonderful and this movie establishes him as a huge movie talent. (The Office already did that in a TV sort of way.) I predict this film is going to make a lot of moola.
ADDED BONUS: They have the trailers to the Simpsons and the new VeggieTales movies running before this movie too! Very cool.
Saw it too and my whole family laughed that they cried. I agree with you- better than all the other sequels that I have seen this summer.
This was a more family friendly movie than Bruce Almighty.

Tony,
I saw it too and laughed hysterically. I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and I appreciate the way you stretch me as well as make me think and laugh in the same blog.
