I decided to take the weekend off so that I could do a little retreating and focus on getting ready for our big news on July 8. I asked my good friend, Charlie Pharis, to preach for me and by all accounts he did another fabulous job. Charlie is just one gifted preacher.
I took the opportunity to visit a nearby megachurch and all I can say was that I was bored out of my mind. The music was polite and boring. The facility was clean and boring. The graphics and program shells were nice and boring AND the message was slow and boring. The place just felt impotent to me.
I hate to admit it but I started looking at my watch as the guy was preaching and I decided that I just didn’t want to sit through the rest of the message so I quietly slipped out and headed to Mill Creek! I got to enjoy the end of Charlie’s message and see some key people.
I have a confession to make. I love Mill Creek and, even when I’m trying to take some time off, it’s the place I want to be.
Charlie is good and I appreciate his message every time he comes. Of course we always miss you Tony when you are not there but Charlie is fun to listen too.

We visited a church while on vacation in FL last Sunday, reminding us of the reasons we didn’t go to church for a few years – boring, bad music, fake. I told Nathan that it would be hard to get out of bed on Sunday mornings for that. The experience was good though b/c it helps us to appreciate what we’ve got at Mill Creek. And I’m glad there are churches like the one we visited for the people that like to worship that way and like that kind of (cheesy) music, it’s just not us!
