Moses assumed his fellow Israelites would realize that God had sent him to rescue them, but they didn’t. Acts 7:25 (NLT)
Moses thought that since he wanted to help his people that the people would respond gladly but, sadly, the truth is that often the people you are most trying to help can be the most resistant to your help.
Like a drowning swimmer fighting against a life guard, often, people don’t participate in their own rescue. They even actively fight against it. This is a strange truth for a pastor to live with but if you’ve been in the ministry for any length of time you know it’s true.
Tony, thanks for this post. I read it right after a four hour meeting where I was attempting, unsuccessfully, to rescue a roomful of drowning church leaders… It’s good to remember that we’re not in this work alone!
