Pruning

I’ve been going through a major pruning season in my life.  Looking back, I think it’s safe to say that the pruning actually began several months ago.

Pruning is different than correction.  Correction is when you’re doing something wrong and the Lord corrects you.  Pruning is when God cuts away good branches to focus growth in a certain direction.  Essentially, the pruning process is God’s way of getting us to put down good things to focus on great things.  At it’s core, it’s a season of renewed focus and purpose.

Right now, it seems that every area of my life is experiencing some sort of pruning.  It’s as if God is going through my life systematically, branch by branch.  Truthfully, pruning is never pleasant when the cuts are being made but it’s worth it in the long haul and I know that God has a plan for all this.  Even now, I see some major fruit coming out of it and I take comfort in the fact that God cares enough about me to invest the energy and time He’s currently investing in me.

  1. I’ve been learning a bit about pruning these days too! Cutting back the negative or the extra are easy compared to cutting back the good stuff that tends to distract from the focus. I’m learning to keep the focus on where God is calling me and putting all the energy into that. Thanks for the thoughts!
