My wife and I went to go see U2–3D last night with some good friends. The movie is in 3D, in case you haven’t guessed, and it was nothing short of amazing. Honestly, I’m not the biggest U2 fan but you don’t have to be a hard core fan to enjoy this film. It really is just wonderful from top to bottom.
I saw a review a couple of days ago talking about all the technology that went into making the film. All I can tell you is that it’s more of an experience than a film and in a lot of ways it’s better than a live concert. I say that because it often feels like you’re literally on stage with the band. The various camera angles, combined with the amazing clarity of the 3D images, really keeps you in the center of the action.
Everything is just so life-like. At one point early on in the film, I thought the people in front of me were raising their hands. Then, I realized it was people in the audience at the theater. At another point, I thought someone at the concert was moving around only to realize that it was somebody going to get some popcorn. Crazy.
There were some theological elements of the concert that I didn’t dig but other than that the whole thing was simply outstanding.
I got to go see this last week, wow, they did tend to have an agenda with the whole, Coexist thing. But what a show…..
