I’m Back

I’ve been needing a break for a long, long time and, as much as I wanted to hear Joseph Sangl this morning, I thought this weekend would be a good time for me and my family to get away for a bit.

We decided to stay at my in-laws lake house for our spring break.  It’s a big beautiful log home on a gorgeous lake.  Unfortunately, cell phones don’t work very well at the lake (They sort of come and go) and up until recently there was only dial-up internet service.  (Remember that?  It’s when you use ancient fax technology to connect to the internet.)

Now, I know that internet access shouldn’t be that big of a deal if you’re trying to get away from it all but the geek in me hates the feeling of being so disconnected.  That’s why I was so happy when the in-laws got DSL.  In fact, I really enjoyed the glorious combination of gorgeous lake views and high-speed internet access for the first few hours of our trip.  Then, the DSL went out and it never came back on.  Honestly, I think it was the Lord because I really need to just sort of detox a bit and we had one of our best breaks ever.

We didn’t do much but that was what was great about it.  We just sort of hung out together and talked and laughed.  (I love laughing with my family!)  My little girl loves to dance, as long as she has an audience, and I was more than happy to play one MP3 after another and give her my undivided attention.  We also played some go fish and we did some real fishing as well.  All in all, it was a great trip.

I don’t know what happened at church today.  I assume it went well.  I’m usually a fanatic about calling people right after the service when I’m not there to get the low down but today I intentionally didn’t call anyone.  I didn’t want my break to end and I didn’t want to take the focus off my wonderful wife and my amazing kids.

This break could only be improved by making it longer.  The truth is that I’ve done a poor job of taking regular breaks in my life and I know that has to change.  I’m so looking forward to my study break this summer.

  7. From the Kingdom Safari perspective, Joe was apparently, um, concise. We barely got started on the actual Bible story for the kids when the parents arrived to pick them up. It’ll be nice to have our regular pastor back so we can have a nice LONNNGGG time to teach the lesson.
Actually, I listened to the CD of the service (and went to the Financial Learning Experience), and he did a great job. What an awesome mission in life, to free people from financial stress! Really cool stuff. He was concise, though. :-)
