Sometimes people ask how they can be praying for me. I never really know how to answer that question on the fly. I usually just say something like, “Pray for wisdom for me.”
With this renewed passion/burden for prayer that we’ve been experiencing lately at Fusion, I’ve decided to give the topic a little more thought. With that in mind, here are the ways you can pray for me specifically as your pastor (these would probably carry over to any pastor).
- Pray that I work smarter. I’ve been working hard for the church since we started but I need to learn how to work smarter.
- Pray that I keep my priorities in order. My kids are growing up fast and I want to be sure that I give them, and Amy, of course, everything I can.
- Pray that I take care of myself. I don’t do a good job of taking care of myself. I know that I need to improve in this area.
- Pray that I find a mentor. This is something I’ve been searching for for a long time. I’m currently in a coaching network that I’m very excited about but I’d like a mentor or, perhaps, a few mentors. (More on mentors later.)
- Pray that I focus more energy on developing deeper relationships with my peers. I know many, many great pastors and I like to think that I’m friends with most of them but I want to deepen some of these relationships. The introvert in me sort of gets in the way of this a lot.
- Pray for fresh passion for me. Again, I’ll be completely honest and tell you that last year took a lot out of me. The study break I took in June helped a lot but pray that I have the passion and strength to do all that God wants me to do.
- Pray that I rest better. I’ve done a real poor job of resting over the years. I’m trying to change. Please pray that I take breaks like I should and that when I do take a break that it’s truly relaxing.
- Pray for my family. Ministry can take it’s toll on a family. There is also always a spiritual warfare element in play when you’re leading a church. Please be praying for my wonderful wife, Amy, and my amazing kids. Pray for protection from the enemy as well as peace and joy from the Lord.
This is probably too much information but there you go.
Definitely not too much information. This is the kind of stuff we need to know to be focused in praying for you guys, as well as the other leaders in the church. If you need prayer in these areas, it’s a safe bet that some or all of them would be good prayer points for Stephen, Shannon, Seth, and the other ministry leaders as well. For our church to reach people effectively, it’s leaders need to be covered in prayer. Good to know. Thanks for this.

Tony…
Thanks for this post! I’m praying for you and your family, because if you’re covered in prayer in those areas you outlined, you will be a more effective disciple and leader, and Fusion will be a more effective church!
Be encouraged!

Definitely good information to have so that we can pray more effectively for you, your family and our other leaders.
