As you fast today, you may start to experience a feeling of weakness. Don’t let that bother you. In a way, feeling weak is part of the process. After all, one of the reasons we are fasting is to practice denying ourselves. Remember the verse we studied…
Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23 (NIV)
The truth is that fasting is acknowledging that God is more important that anything else. We are focusing on Him because He is the source of everything we need…including strength. The fact that we are weak actually points to our need for God and His incredible strength.
The apostle Paul understood this concept. He wrote…
Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My gracious favor is all you need. My power works best in your weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may work through me. Since I know it is all for Christ’s good, I am quite content… For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Cor. 12:8-10 (NLT) Emphasis mine
Remember that even though you may feel weak, God is strong and His power will work through us as we give our weaknesses to Him.
