Here’s an idea for all you pastor types. When it comes to daylight saving time, we all love falling back an hour but springing ahead an hour stinks AND it almost always hurts attendance on the Sunday when it strikes. Well, a while back I came across a church web site that had launched an “Un-Time Change Sunday” campaign. The basic idea is that they are telling everyone at their church to change their clocks AFTER the service on Sunday. What a beautiful idea. It’s so simple but I bet it’s effective. Here’s some blurbage from the site.
Every year, hundreds of people miss church on time-change Sunday because they forgot to set their clocks ahead on Saturday night. Well, this year, we’re going to make it easy for you…we aren’t changing our clocks either. Join us on this Sunday as we begin an exciting new message series, but don’t touch your clocks! Come at the regular time. Then, after church, it will be time to “spring” forward! However, if you happen to mess up and set your clocks ahead, we’ll be glad to see you at church a little early. In fact, we’ll have coffee, juice and donuts for you!
I love it and I wish I had thought of it. (Sorry, I don’t remember where I got the blurbage. If it’s your church let me know and I’ll give you credit here.) I think I’ll try it this year and give everyone at Fusion an extra hour of sleep. I’m even thinking about having a New Year’s style countdown at the end of the service to “celebrate” the time change together. I say let the sting of DST come at work on Monday instead of at church on Sunday.
cool idea.
cool idea.
I was part of a church that did this about 15 years ago. If I recall the numbers went up – but it sucked when we got out of church and it was 1:00 already
