Like many of you, we eat hot dogs a lot at the McCollum house and I thought we had cooked them every way possible. We’ve grilled them, of course, and boiled them too (don’t ask) but I had never heard of the method we are currently using until I found an article about it on the internet the other day. I’m very pleased with how the dogs have turned out using this method and I don’t have to fire up the grill to do it.
What’s the method? Well, I’m glad you asked. You take a frying pan and you put a small amount of water in it. (Just enough to cover about half of the bottom of the pan.) Then, you put it on high heat. When the water starts to bubble, add your dogs to it. This will steam the dogs. Wait until all the water evaporates and then add a little butter. (You can skip the butter if you want.) Fry the dogs until they are crispy on the outside. You should notice some wonderful smells as you’re doing this.
Then, serve them up! You’ll love the crispy outside and the juicy, steamed inside.
