One of my favorite movies is Forrest Gump. I know some folks don’t like the film much but I like it on all sorts of levels. Ultimately, I think I like it because, to me, it’s a story about love and redemption. One of my favorite scenes is where Forrest tells Jenny that he’s “not a smart man” but that he “knows what love is.” I think I kind of subscribe to the Forrest Gump model of ministry. I may not be the smartest or slickest guy in town but I don’t really want to be known for those sorts of things. I want to be known as a pastor that loves people. I want Fusion to be know as a church that loves people too.
Don’t get me wrong. I understand the need for systems and for things like marketing. We certainly think in those terms at Fusion but if there’s no love there’s no point to it all. If there’s no real love, then I don’t know why we’re even meeting together.
Systems, structures, and the like should all be there solely to support and facilitate greater and greater amounts of love flowing both to God and to others.
That’s all I’ve got to say about that .
Great word Tony!
I’ll never forget what you said to me during our conversation at Ruby Tuesdays in Buford. “Systems don’t create life.”
You are Pastor Gump!

at the end of the day…Jesus died for people because God loves us – really, pretty simple!
