I took my son, Josh, and bunch of his friends to see Avatar Friday night for his birthday. I start tweeting about it and it became a bit of a running gag. Anyway, here's the whole sequence for those of you that haven't seen it...

I took my son, Josh, and bunch of his friends to see Avatar Friday night for his birthday.  I start tweeting about it and it became a bit of a running gag.  Anyway, here’s the whole sequence for those of you that haven’t seen it…

  • 6:21PM – Waiting for Avatar to start — at Regal Cinema IMAX Theatre
  • 6:34PM – Getting ready for Avatar. Putting my phone on loud so I can hear it over the movie because I’m VERY important.
  • 10:30PM – Man, this is a long movie.
  • 10:33PM – There really should be an intermission when the movie is this long.
  • 11:14PM – This movie is entering its fourth hour. They’ve locked the doors and won’t let us out of the theater.
  • 11:17PM – Neytiri is now singing “The Colors of the Wind”. http://bit.ly/105s1S
  • 11:20PM – The lady two rows down just gave birth. (She wasn’t pregnant when the movie started.)
  • 11:24PM – All the alien animals on the planet are now in a big musical number. They’re singing “The Circle of Life”
  • 11:31PM – Several smurfs spotted in the background as R2 and C3PO recount the back story to the Na’vi.
  • 11:39PM – Just learned the movie is in 3D. That explains the blurriness.
  • 11:42PM – Some patrons have begun a tunneling effort to get out of the theater. Others have resigned themselves to death by Avatar.
  • 11:43PM – Avatar has way too many Celine Dion songs in it for my liking.
  • 11:44PM – Unexpected but touching cameo from Kermit the Frog singing “It’s Not Easy Being Green”
  • 11:59PM – There are a lot more dance numbers than I expected. Subtle Michael Jackson homage was nice touch though.
  • 12:00AM – I must say that the claymation is very life like. Props to James Cameron.
  • 12:01AM – Spoiler Alert: There’s a major plot twist around the sixth hour.
  • 12:28AM – The comical fruit bat character voiced by Robin Williams is a big hit with the kids.
  • 12:31AM – The ushers allow small bits of news from the outside world but nothing else. I fear there’s something they are not telling us.
  • 12:32AM – The fragile “society” we’ve built together inside the theater can’t last much longer.
  • 12:39AM – The whole “I’d Like to Buy This World a Coke” sequence was heavy handed and smacked of product placement if you ask me.
  • 12:45AM – Al Gore’s rap is not that bad. His monologue was way too long though.
  • 12:46AM – Many in the theater have lost the will to live. Others speak of a prophecy that predicts an end to the film.
  • 1:05AM – I must say that the sub-plot featuring Jackie Chan is a little weak.
  • 1:14AM – I’m going to try to sleep during the next few sequences of the film even though it’s very loud in here.
  • 8:51AM – Still watching Avatar.
  • 8:53AM – Jar-Jar’s performance is amazing! I smell an Oscar nomination.
  • 8:54AM – Popcorn rationing has begun among the survivors.
  • 9:19AM – I feel that Mr T’s language is inappropriate for kids.
  • 9:25AM – I think we’re nearing the end of the movie. Al Gore has triumphantly returned to save the entire furngully.
  • 9:35AM – I just wish I had said goodbye to my family and friends before this movie started.
  • 9:38AM – A rebellion is forming against the ushers. They are armed with short brooms but we think we can take them.
  • 10:26AM – SPOILER: Neytiri just fell in love with both a vampire AND a werewolf. #Shocked
  • 10:30AM – Kevin Costner dancing with the water horses is an iconic scene that won’t soon be forgotten.
  • 10:36AM – An entire generation has now be born in the theater that knows nothing of the outside world.
  • 10:41AM – Thought it was ending but “Avatar: A New Hope” just appeared on screen. Dang.
  • 10:46AM – Falkor’s flight sequence is impressive and visually stunning.
  • 11:35AM – Is it just me or does the wise-cracking, unicorn sidekick voiced by Eddie Murphy seem oddly familiar? #lawsuit
  • 11:37AM – The extended flashback montage recapping the first 5 hours of the film is entirely unnecessary IMHO.
  • 11:43AM – Even though the ushers were all either prepubescent or geriatric, they were much harder to defeat than we thought. #regroup
  • 11:52AM – Wanda Sykes doesn’t get near enough screen time in Avatar.
  • 11:53AM – The movie must be nearing the end. Al Gore just ascended.
  • 11:54AM – The firefighters are using the jaws of life to get to us. The ushers are resisting.
  • 11:56AM – Avatar is over. I need a hot meal, a shower and a shave. Where is FEMA?
  • 11:57AM – Families are being reunited outside of the theater. Must return IMAX 3D glasses first though.
  • 11:58AM – Avatar is well worth the $58/per person when you factor in the free overnight stay.
  • 12:00PM – Absolutely loved Avatar! Can’t wait for blu-ray and the extended director’s cut.
  • 12:00PM – <End of Avatar Rant> Moving on with my life.
