A little over a year ago, I had the wonderful opportunity of going to Tanzania to view the amazing work Compassion International does there. To say that trip was life changing would be an understatement. What I saw there and, more importantly the people I met there, impacted me deeply.
I’ve discussed all this before and I won’t go into the countless details again but let me stress my big takeaways from my trip.
Compassion International is an Amazing Organization
It’s no exaggeration when I say that I have seldom seen or come in contact with many organizations that are as well run as Compassion International. I was so impressed with what they are able to do with limited resources. I was also equally impressed with how organized and efficient they were.
Compassion is a very hard working organization and they hire local people to do the work. The end result is that donations from abroad are used by people that understand the culture as well as problems faced by that culture.
They also work through local pastors and churches. This empowers the churches and makes them the center of hope for the communities.
The Potential is Staggering
The potential to change the lives of children for modest sums of money is mind-blowing. A trajectory of a sponsored child’s life is literally altered in amazing ways with just a simple donation from a sponsor.
While in Tanzania, I met people in their twenties that had grown up through the Compassion International program and the results were staggering.
The potential to change the entire country in Tanzania is also astounding. As these sponsored kids are leaving the program they are going on to become things like doctors, lawyers, and other community leaders. Some even start working for the government at various levels.
This sort of impact on the country is profound and the end results are incalculable.
It’s More Than Just Financial Support
You can forever impact a child’s life not just through your critically needed financial support but also through letters to the child.
I was floored when I saw the impact that letters from sponsors could have on the kids and their entire families. The families cherished these letters and honored the thoughts shared within them.
It never occurred to me before this trip that the sponsored children, and by extension their families, could be encouraged and effectively discipled in such a profound way by someone living on the other side of the globe.
Your letters to these kids can bring hope and Biblical insights in ways you can’t imagine.
One More Christmas Gift This Year?
I know you’ve probably already bought a lot of gifts this year. You may still have more to buy. But, would you consider adding just one more to your list?
Would you sponsor a child through Compassion International? If you already sponsor a child, would you consider sponsoring another? I can think of no greater way you could spend $38 a month.
