Good Task Management?

  1. Omnifocus. It’s not cheap, but it syncs with the iPhone and works great. It’s the best task and project manager I’ve ever used.

  3. Try Smartsheet! (http://www.smartsheet.com)

Very flexible and easy to use, but also feature rich. Check out the ‘Product’ tab for a nice overview of the features and very short videos so you can see them in action.

  5. Hi Tony.
I like the disclaimer that you are allowed to disagree with yourself – nice!
I would say that you do have all the major task management options covered in this list. What is essential though is actually trying them out yourself to see which one is going to work for you. And to do this will take time – lots of it.
Personally I have tried a fair few of them and the one I find works best for me is Todoist. I have written a post about how I actually use which you might find useful: http://lsdigitalmedia.co.uk/blog/2008/12/using-todoist-as-a-simple-task-management-tool/
Good luck with your research fella.

  7. Hello Tony,

Thanks for putting together the list. There are a number if good choices there. You should also check out OnePlace. (http://info.oneplacehone.com) Works for both your personal and professional life.

Disclaimer – I work at the company that created OnePlace.

  9. Chad, thanks for the suggestion. I tried Highrise and the task support wasn’t robust enough for me.

BTW, can you explain the difference between backpack, basecamp and highrise? There seems to be a lot of overlap there to me.

  10. Bob, I think Omnifocus looks great. (Things from Cultured Code looks good too.) Unfortunately, I’m running PCs and not Macs and I think these programs are Mac only. Thanks though!

  11. Todd, I tried Smartsheet. It’s pretty slick. I still think I want more control of the tasks. I also need sub-tasks.

  12. Robert, I totally agree with your assessment of Todoist. It’s my favorite by far right now. The amount of control you have over the tasks is amazing. The keyboard shortcuts also add so much. I’m going to blog more about Todoist later. Right now, it’s the clear winner for the way I work.

  13. Steve, I tried Oneplace and it looks strong too. I’m amazed at how many strong contenders there are in this space. Still, I need more on the task end of things. Thanks!

  14. try HyperOffice – worked for me. low priced ($8 per user pm), very easy to handle, pretty comprehensive feature set around a core task management tool – workspaces, document management, forums, mobile access, Outlook integration, calendars etc etc.
