Who Ya Foolin’?

Pardon the rant but...

This may sound harsh but I don’t mean it to come across that way.  I just want to be honest with you all about something I’m seeing more and more.

I’m always surprised by how many people look like mature believers but they don’t give.  Let me just say that if you are a believer and you understand tithing but you aren’t doing it (or at least trying to get there) then you really aren’t a part of any church.  If you aren’t giving 10% you’re just fooling yourself.  You aren’t as mature as you think.  You aren’t a part of the mission.  You aren’t in the game.  You may be gifted and brilliant but you aren’t committed.  You’re just a spectator.  You’re just waving banners as the rest of us march off to the front lines of the battle.

If that’s you, I cordially invite you to jump in today.  If, however, you decide your money is more important to you than real maturity, then all I can say is thanks for the all warm fuzzies and we’ll see ya in heaven.

  1. man…harsh but so true, and the same goes for those who give their 10% and think that somehow the church owes them something bc of it! It’s God’s money anyways so why the heck to we scratch and fight as if we somehow deserve what he blesses us with. Good stuff Tony!

  3. Wow!! So true….I keep wondering why the church is affected SO SO much in a recession because, aside from losing a job or taking a pay cut, our 10% should pretty much look the same since it comes off the top. Thanks for the uncharacteristically “harsh” but necessary word, Tony!!

I think it is those who DO give that, for the most part, don’t have that attitude that the church owes them something. They understand what it’s all about and give knowing that God lets them keep 90%!…probably because, as you said, it is the mark of a mature (or at least getting there) Believer.
