When I was a child it seemed that every movie that predicted the future showed some sort of flying car.  It may sound stupid but I thought I’d actually have one by now but I’m still waiting.  I feel the same way about tablet computing.  I’ve owned almost ever iteration of tablet computer that has ever hit the mainstream and none of them have ever really done what they needed to do to be worth the hassle.  Oddly, the closest thing that has ever even come near the computing nirvana promised by tablet computer enthusiasts has been the iphone.  Say what you want but the iphone has become the best mobile computing platform out there.

The success of the iphone and the recent flood of netbook purchases points to the fact that people want small, mobile, lightweight computing power.  I’ve been hearing about both the Apple iTablet and the “secret” Microsoft Courier for too long now.  Both are starting to feel like flying cars to me.

Check out this video of what a magazine (Wired) might look like on an iTablet.

Let me be clear.  I want one of these, or possibly both of these, right now.  I want them RIGHT NOW, I say, and I don’t want it to take so long that I’m flying my car to the store to pick them up.  Come on, Apple.  Come on, Microsoft.  Somebody get one of these beauties to market.  I promise you that people will line up to get one…and I’ll be in the first in line.
