Faith Isn’t Ignorance

We tend to think that faith is all about ignoring the facts.  We think that when God calls us to do something “impossible” that He wants us to turn a blind eye to obstacles and difficulties that lie ahead.  That’s not really it.

Faith isn’t focused ignorance or holy stupidity.  Faith is about looking at all the facts and then consciously focusing on the biggest fact…that God can do anything.

When God was leading His people to take the city of Jericho, He had them march around the city once a day for six days and then seven times on the seventh day.  Have you ever wondered why He had them do that?  I think it was because He wanted them to see just how big and imposing that city wall really was.  He wanted them to see just how huge and thick and formidable the defenses of that city were.  He wanted them to clearly understand just how “impossible” it was for them to take that city, unless He stepped in.

When chasing after your God-given dream, don’t let discouraging facts or harsh realities dissuade you.  Don’t think for a second that God has lead you astray or that you’re doing something wrong.  Problems and difficulties are necessary ingredients for any miracle or impossibility.

Instead, focus on the cornerstone thought of faith.  Focus on the biggest fact and the truest reality.  Focus on your amazing God and the eternal truth that He can do all things.  Remember that with Him all things are possible.

  1. I followed a recent tweet to read this quick word of encouragement and have to say that I love this part: “Faith isn’t focused ignorance or holy stupidity. Faith is about looking at all the facts and then consciously focusing on the biggest fact…that God can do anything.”

I was engaged in a conversation over the past week with someone who fell out of the church, reportedly because they felt that religion was detrimental to society. The hardest concept for him to accept was this idea of ‘faith.’ Why your religion and not someone else’s? Why God and not Allah, etc, etc. How could you know for sure?!!

As I provided my testimony, explained the miraculous things I’d witnessed – which included one doctor report of my husband’s cancer which ‘ate itself’ – examples of answered prayer and other evidence as I could provide, one statement after another was rejected. ‘That’s wishful thinking and nothing extraordinary’ – of course he never refuted my doctor report claims… but just set aside everything I had to say. I explained things like the fruit is our evidence of what’s real vs. what’s a ‘religion.’ I explained that through a relationship, we come to know the voice of God and by His Word we can judge such things… I provided the Word itself which backed up my findings and evidence with quotes from my resource – the Holy Bible – as what we can expect as a child of God!

The culmination was that this person told me that I was incapable of holding a real adult conversation due to all my ‘Bible’ pasting (once again, not accepting my testimony or believing my account of the doctor report findings).

At this, I had to laugh and quickly recall that I am a ‘child’ of God! I thought about thanking him for the complement, but felt it was probably best to just leave things alone as they are!

Yes – God is the I AM!
