PressPausePlay

PressPausePlay is an amazing documentary that I watched recently.  Truthfully, I’ve been meaning to watch it for quite some time but I’ve just been too busy.  When I finally made the time to watch it I was blown away.

What’s it about?  Well, here’s a portion of the description from IMDB…

The digital revolution of the last decade has unleashed creativity and talent of people in an unprecedented way, unleashing unlimited creative opportunities. But does democratized culture mean better art, film, music and literature or is true talent instead flooded and drowned in the vast digital ocean of mass culture? Is it cultural democracy or mediocrity?

It’s clear that we’re living at some sort of crossroads in our society.  We all sense that everything’s changing but it’s hard to fully express what’s going on.  It’s like living in the beginning of the industrial revolution.  I’m sure people sensed something fundamental was changing back then but I bet they had a hard time getting their heads completely around it.  PressPausePlay is exceptional in that it comes as close as anything I’ve ever seen to actually capturing a revolution as it starts.  It chronicles the digital shift in which we live, and it does it well.

I watch a lot of documentaries and I can tell you that this one is brilliant on all sorts of levels.  It not only has a lot to say (and show) but it says it very well.  While the film is talking about the arts and what’s happening to them, it is itself a work of art.

If you’re a creative of any type – musician, artist, composer, writer, photographer, communicator, designer, producer, teacher – I highly recommend this doc.  Honestly, I think just about anybody will find this interesting because it’s so well done but the creatives of the world will find it absolutely riveting.

Here’s the trailer.

Thankfully, the makers of this film decided to release it for free on their site.  (I guess they were listening to some of the experts in the film.)  Anyway, the good news is that it’s available for free via torrent.
